We have a small Liquidfiles instance running v3.7.16. We'd like to use the Shares feature to provide something similar to an anonymous FTP site. This generally works as expected, a registered user can download the files from the share as needed. A problem arises when attempting to share a URL to a file in the share. If the user is not currently logged in, or registered, he or she will be prompted to login. Completing the login process, the user is directed to the send message page. It is expected that having followed a link to a share, the user would be directed to the share file after the login is successfully completed. Is there a different method to share URLs to shared files? Or is this an oversight in the current software version? Thank you, William
The option which would allow create links from files in a Share or allow access to selected share folders directly is something which we are consider to add in a future LF version. Currently only FileLink feature can generate an URL to a file which needs to be uploaded separately first via the FileLinks interface.
Presently, copying the URL that presents itself in the Share folder view does work properly once successfully logged in. An easy solution may be to pass the return URL through the login process when an unauthenticated user makes a request. This would allow sharing URLs from most places in the software. Regarding FileLinks, it seems that a file link is associated with a specific licensed user. Is there a means to create file links that can be updated by multiple users, so that any member of our delivery department can update files that are meant to be available via the file link? Also is the file link consistent even if the content to which the link refers changes? Thank you, William
aha ok we will have a look in the Share folder/file redirection after the authentication what's possible to do. According to the FileLinks, that's correct. The link is associated only with the user who created it (sender). The links can be downloaded anonymously by anybody, but attributes of a FileLInk can be updated also only by the sender. Note: a file attached to a posted FileLink can't be updated. When the sender has a new version of the file it needs to be uploaded and posted as a new FileLink, with a new unique URL.
The Share folder links are something that is an important feature for our usage of your application. Would you be willing to negotiate a payment for the feature to be added? If so, I believe you will have my e-mail address and I would very much appreciate discussing this further.
We don’t do any custom development like that. LiquidFiles will be developed in a way that we believe will suit the most amount of customers. In this case these links or anonymous access to specified parts in Share are frequently requested functions so in a future LF version in some form it will be implemented.
