Filedrops are connected with a user account. When the user account is deleted, the related Filedrops are deleted. This feature request would be to add a checkbox on the filedrop configuration that reads "Protect from automatic deletion." When this option is selected, the filedrop will not be deleted when the user is removed. We have filedrops where the prmary account may be removed but the CC users are still active. This option would allow the filedrop to continue to work. Maybe there is a notice sent to admins that there is an abandoned filedrop when the primary user is removed.
As an alternate take, I'd like to see the ability to re-assign a FileDrop to another account (e.g if Jim leaves, I can re-assign his FileDrops to Sherry). I see this option in other tools, so it possible, no? Then they're not orphaned. Thanks. Cheers, Jon
You can absolutely reassign Filedrops to another user. In Admin → Configuration → Filedrops, edit the Filedrop you want and select another main recipient. And you're spot on with your comment Jon. The reason why an option like this won't be implemented is because we don't want to deal with orphaned records. When a user is deleted, anything relating to that user is deleted – the Filedrops they own (are the main recipient for), the messages they've sent, the file they've uploaded, everything. The solution to not having Filedrops deleted is to make sure the Filedrop owner user (the main recipient) isn't deleted. Our recommendation is that you create a separate group, something like "Non-Expiring Local Users" where you add users you don't want to expire. Either because they own Filedrops or because you want to keep their messages searchable for longer, or some other reason.
