It would be great if the appliance would be able to use the OS feature Out Bound HTTP Proxy Support. The Out Bound HTTP Proxy should be a variable within the network settings.

    Many thanks in advance!

    Hi Ercan,

This does come up from time to time. From a technical point of view, there would probably have to be a proxy running on localhost that can forward connections to an upstream proxy. The reason is that there are a few different components that require outgoing connections, like checking for updates, downloading updates, downloading AV updates. These are all handled by different underlying functions, and will have different proxy implementations and it would be really annoying for instance if ClamAV updates worked, but checking for updates didn't, just because there's different proxy implementations.

Anyway, it will all come down to getting someone to take some time and figure out what's the most robust way of implementing this. It will most likely happen at some point.

    Cheers

It's not being actively worked on or on any immediate plans.

That would definitively be a plus.

The reason why we can't do sponsored development is perhaps not obvious. But lets say that we would accept sponsored development. In that case it would be fair that you get what you pay for. Lets then say that in 6 months time, or a year, we want to change something, to better suit the majority, or other future ideas - are we then obliged to check in with you to check that it's ok that we change "your" code? I would assume that we would. And if the sponsor is a big organisation like yours, what would be the turnaround time for that? Lets then say that we do this sponsored development 10 or 20 times, that would most likely bring and end to future improvements as we would be stuck negotiating with now 10 or 20 code "owners". Now, building proxy support is obviously more generic than building say an authorization system before someone is permitted to send (a request we got) but I don't want to set a precedence on this.

That said, this is something that is planned to add at some point but we just don't get enough requests for it compared to adding file transfer related features.
